As it’s Valentine’s Day in two days (this year is flying by already), I thought I’d gather together my red nail polishes, paints, varnishes, whatever it is you usually call them to give you some Valentine’s Nail inspiration. I wasn’t aware just how many reds I had until I thought about writing this post and it’s a perfect test to see whether the more expensive polishes are generally the ‘best’ polishes.
This was after just one coat and you can see the coverage of some nail polishes in comparison to others… I bet you couldn’t have guessed which one is the cheapest?
It’s the one on the far left – BarryM Nail Paint in ‘Bright Red’, do you see why I love the brand so much now?
This was the same polishes after two coats. As you can see they’ve now all covered perfectly and there isn’t much difference between a few of them. What a difference that extra coat makes though? Although some polishes cover well after one coat, two is always advisable.
My favourites from this selection were ‘Rocket’ from Models Own; I think this would look lovely over a White/Pearl base, ‘Bright Red’ by BarryM; this was the cheapest from the selection and provided the best coverage after just one coat and Orly ‘Red Glitter’ as it was something a bit different from a basic red, it’s more of a maroon with a metallic shimmer effect.
It was nice to see all these different polishes next to each other to compare and it really goes to show the higher price tags don’t necessarily mean you’re getting a better quality product. I have loved BarryM’s brand for a long long time now but I didn’t get addicted to their polishes because they were ‘cheap’ (I now have 86 colours!). I became obsessed because of the quality of their product, the size of the bottles and the staying power. Why buy just one polish when you can buy up to four from BarryM?
I had a play around with some nail art on my designs but it’s something I’m not very good at. You probably can’t see well at all from this picture but I used some Nail Tattoos from NailArt to add some hearts and bows to my designs. I’ve used their ‘Tattoos’ before and although they’re just stickers they’re so effective and providing you’ve used a good top coat (I use Orly’s ‘Tough Cookie’), they’ll stay on for up to two weeks. I was going to add some bows too from this set from Amazon but I didn’t have any nail glue and they wouldn’t stay on just using the nail varnish.
What nail art looks have you decided on for this Valentine’s Day?
